School Sports Complex is lighter, more pleasant and attractive with RAKO tiles.
The only institution one can attend from elementary school all the way to high school graduation, is the Wilhelm Löhe school in Nuremberg. Therefore, the local educational law call it the „special school“. This designation is really accurate considering not only the education: Within an extensive reconstruction of the sports complex, there were some unusually designed rooms. Using the large format tiles and mosaics RAKO from the Base series, the designers arranged for strikingly aesthetic rendering of walls and floors in sanitary rooms, halls and stairways. With the ceramic tiles and mosaic from the brand RAKO, they added a pleasant look to the interiors, which is not always a natural thing.
The cooperative universal Wilhelm Löhe school in Deutschherrnstraße puts an elementary school, secondary school (instead of th 2nd elementary school level in Bavaria), the so-called real school, college and a grammar school under one roof. It is the only school in Bavaria one can attend from elementary school all the way to high school graduation. A new, modern sports venue in this compound was made available to the pubils after the summer holiday 2017.
The opening of the sports complex preceded a year and a half long reconstruction, during which the complete inner layout was rearranged: a tripple and a single sports venue, fitness centre, changing rooms, showers, WCs and corridors… All the areas were rearranged and recreated. „Now they are lighter, more pleasant and attractive,“ the projct architect, Dipl. Ing. Heinz Scheuenstuhl, from the engineering office BAU in Weihenzell describes the reconstruction.
The almost 40 year old sports venue first had to be completely exposed. Despite the limited amount of time, during the general reconstruction, an unusually comfortable concept was implemented: Intentionally, the typical plain face of a purpose-built building and there were some eye-catching optical and practical advantages of the indoor equipment implemented. This intention is obvious mostly in lavatories, showers, washrooms and WCs downstairs, further in the basement of the complex. A large concept is supplemented by teachers´ changing room, handicap lavatories and lavatories for guests and visitors of the sport events.
Base series for a pleasant atmosphere
Ceramic wall and floor tiles from the Base series from the RAKO brand imply a natural stone look. The surfaces are arrange d in contrast, there are combinations of light beige and anthracite tiles 30x60 cm. The area of the comon showers, where the shower fittings are built in, is highlighter by a 5 x 5 cm mosaic. The intention of the architect Heinz Scheuenstuhl was to avoid the formerly common look of the shower room tiled from the floor all the way up to the ceiling.
Floor tiles combined with old masonry
In the corridors, there is an interesting contrast created by the almost 40 year old masonry and a new ceramic tile floor. It is and example of a successful blend of old and new materials. The overall look is supplemented by stairways of the sports venue made with use of ceramic stair tiles from the Base series with anti-slip.
