Hundreds of wheeled suitcases and carts run every day the Jan Kašpar terminal of Pardubice International Airport. Check-in comfort is provided to passengers when departing on business trips or holidays. The modern area of the new check-in is highlighted by a resilient ceramic floor from the RAKO Random series floor tiles, with a true stone appearance. In view of the demanding operations of the airport hall, in addition to the aesthetic impression, glazed tiles must also meet the high degree of abrasion resistance, resistance to surface wear.
“The new check-in concourse was a necessity for further development of the airport, and the construction of this terminal has been discussed for many years. We were able to get new transport carriers only thanks to this investment,” says Ing. Hana Šmejkalová, Executive Director and Deputy Chairwoman of East Bohemian Airport, a.s., who is responsible for Pardubice Airport. "The new concourse is modern and practical, having the sufficient capacity to check-in two aeroplanes at once, and with a high level of comfort for passengers. Operational and safety technologies are comparable with those at Prague airport. The airport is one of the entrance gateways to the city of Pardubice, therefore, it should be representative,” adds Hana Šmejkalová.
The new Jan Kašpar terminal building has an overall size of 160 x 46 m, and the built-up area is approximately 6120 m2. Floor tiles 60 x 60 cm from the Random series are laid both in the check-in concourse, and in the adjacent rooms, such as toilets. The stone appearance of glazed vitrified floor tiles is authentic at first glance, and their advantage over natural stones lies in high resistance to heavy loads, easy maintenance and, of course, a more favourable price. A light grey shade is one of the reasons why the whole space looks so airy and open.
Floors suitable for high loads
With regard to the high movement frequency in the airport hall, the abrasion resistance class was an important parameter when choosing glazed tiles. The abrasion resistance class is indicated by the PEI 1-5 symbol. The higher grade of the material, the greater the load ensured, providing higher walking frequency and wear stress.
